For a moment, maybe we’ll ask what’s Self-concept? What is essence? What purpose? And many more questions that might be thrown about on Personality Development. Before the question is answered, maybe we need a moment to imagine the following conditions.
If you have a desktop PC (Personal Computer) with a specification of Pentium IV 3 GHz, 40 GB Disk, 256 MB DDRAM, 52 × 36×48 CD-RW, Yamaha sound card, VGA GeForce, OS MS Windows XP Pro, and various other advanced components. Then suppose that the OS (Operating System) that you use for your PC this is the MS DOS 3.0 rather than Windows XP what is happening on the PC?
There are 2 possibilities, the first PC you may not want the road because of the OS you are using are outdated. The second, but the way your PC is not working optimally so that the benefits of the components can not be felt.
Self-concept component. The concept itself has 3 very important component because it will affect our lives began as a child until now, components of personality development are:
1.Self defined ideal in world context of education, self-defined ideal that parents are often the child should get a perfect score (100 or A). in each test
2. image. You will always act or behave in accordance with the image that appears in the mirror / image of yourself.
3. self-esteem . If you like yourself, accept yourself, & respect for yourself as a valuable & meaningful, the higher your self-esteem.
The conclusion can be example as follows: The parent you set your ideal self must get 100 to test the value of mathematics, but you can only have score 60 (self image). What happens now is the ideal self-image is not in line with yours .this is will definitely affect self-esteem and also for the development of your personality.
How Self-concept formed.
Building self-concept is like a table, where there are backers legs. Who was instrumental in the “Table” include:
1. who put these legs? First parents and then teachers
2.how much intensity of emotion that comes when it? Sad, embarrassed, happy, proud, etc.
3.Repetition . how often, meaning the stronger leg attached.
